How to Create Your Perfect Morning Routine (Free Workbook)
Do you feel lost in the morning? Don’t know what to wrap your head around? When that happens to me, I just feel like giving up on the day and going straight back to bed. NO MORE! We’re here to create your perfect routine and help you never feel overwhelmed as soon as you wake up in the morning.
Let’s get to it!
Make a list & set it in order
What do you want to get DONE every morning? What are your goals? What will start your day right?
These are the questions you need to ask yourself in order to determine your morning routine. So start by making a list of everything you’d like to accomplish first thing in the morning. These can be productive or not; the importance is that they make you happy.
Here’s a list of some ideas:
- Go for a run
- Eat breakfast
- Read/watch the news
- Have a cup of tea/coffee
- Pick up around the house
- Do the dishes
- Plan your day
- Write your to-do list
- Walk the dog
- Brush your teeth
- Read a book
- Watch TV for a while
- Check social media
- Check e-mail
You’ve got the idea, right? Now you have to put them in the order you want to do them every single morning. I’ll have an example below where I show you my personal routine.
Determine how much time you have
It is important to set a time limit for your morning routine. It shouldn’t be taking 2-3 hours a day. That’s indulging in your routine, not making your day better.
What time do you usually have to leave home? Or what time do you have to start working/studying from home? Do you want to wake up a little earlier to give you more time? Or do you want a quick routine because you’re always in a rush? It’s important to personalize your routine; it has to feel like YOU. Otherwise, you won’t stick to it and I totally speak from experience here, ughh!
Write it down and show it off
Okay now that you’ve got the what/how figured out, you need to actually DO it. That’s the hardest part of it all but NO WORRIES! We’ll get it right this time!
Use the free worksheet down below to write your routine and then stick it in your face. No matter where: on your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, on your bed table, next to your computer screen. Just SOMEWHERE. You have to constantly see it and be reminded that you need to do these things e v e r y s i n g l e day.
Stick to it
You have to actually make an effort to accomplish the things on your list when you wake up. Force yourself to get your list and do the things, one by one, in order. Checking your e-mail can wait if it’s not on your list (and FIY, it shouln’t really be!). If you’ve given yourself enough time to complete your morning routine you shouldn’t feel rushed. Mornings are only enjoyable if you make them so. Keep that in mind.
Don’t get discouraged if you’re not used to it at first. Changing habits takes a lot of time. In order to stick to your morning routine you need to things: to feel like it suits you & to be patient and practice tons!
Some tips to help ya’ out!
- Wake up at the same time everyday, this will make it easier to mind yourself to your routine
- If you forget your routine one day, don’t freak out. If it’s not too late, do it anyway. If it is, there’s always tomorrow!
- Something isn’t working out for you? Or something you don’t like? CHANGE IT! Remember your routine is there for you,not the other way around!
